Gun Laws

Gun laws in any country control the possession, sale and utilizing the ammunition and firearms. State laws are independent of the existing firearm laws. Even though they are at times broader or more limited as compared to the Federal Laws.

State level laws differ significantly in content, form and restriction level. Regulations and laws related to gun ownership differ from the state-to-state.

Why Do Firearm Registration Laws Exist?

Firearm registration laws need individuals to record their ownership of firearm with a reputed law enforcement agency. These laws allow enforcement to disarm, identify and take action against violent criminals and people who illegally possess firearms. Registration system leads to accountability on behalf of the firearm owners and restrains illegal sales.

It leads to prosecution and identification of criminals by helping them to enforce laws quickly and trace the identity sources of firearms recovered from the crime scenes.
Why I Did Decide To Write This Step By Step Guide?

When I decided to buy a gun, there were so many concerns in my mind and there were very few sources to get reliable information. One of the major concern is to get the gun registered in my name. I wanted to do everything by following all the legal procedures and therefore I did a lot of research.

Now my purpose is fulfilled but most of the times, one of my neighbors or relatives used to come and ask me about the steps that one needs to take to become a legal owner of a gun since I had previously bought it.

I decided to write a step by step guide in an easy to understand language so that everyone can easily follow these steps.

Step By Step Guide

Here are the steps that you need to follow:

Step 1: Complete The Application Form For Firearms Registration Certificate.

You can pick up a copy of forms anywhere at the FRS office to request a form to be mailed to you or you can download the form online. Fill your name in the purchaser or owner’s name section. If you are buying a new gun, this section A will be filled by the seller of the gun.

#1. Are Copperhead Snakes Venomous? How To Identify A Copperhead Snake

Copperhead snakes are the most misidentified snakes in the southern hemisphere. These snakes are born in the late spring to early summer and like warm, dry to humid weather. Adult female snakes give birth to nearly twelve snakes at a time.

Each offspring is anywhere from six inches to a foot long. Some of the most identifiable attributes to a copperhead snake are the brightly colored tips of the snakes tail, as well as the light auburn color beneath darker brown stripes.

Copperhead snakes can reach up to four to five feet in length. Copperheads will bite when they’re spooked or startled and don’t mind the company of other snakes. This means, be very cautious as you prepare your garden in the spring and summer.

You may step on a copperhead snake and if you are bitten, be sure to immediately seek medical attention. You may risk amputation of a finger, toe or even a hand or foot if you are unable to receive anti-venom from a medical professional right away.

#2. Bring A Friend

If you can, call a professional to get rid of copperhead snakes if you spot one in your yard. Seventy five percent of bites happen while homeowners are attempting to kill the snake themselves. If you don’t know what you’re doing, trying to catch or kill the snake yourself is very dangerous and presents risks to your health and safety that aren’t worth it.

Read this tutorial carefully and make sure that you have a friend or family member nearby who is able to call for medical attention in case it is needed.

#3. Make Homemade Snake Repellent

Some of the most basic ingredients found around the house make great snake repellents. The only issue is that most snake repellents have to actually be sprayed directly onto the snake. Why? Snakes have moist porous skin and the mixture that you create needs to sink into their sponge-like epidermis.

You can make copperhead snake repellent using cinnamon oil, clove oil, and black pepper. Put these ingredients in a spray bottle. You only need about a quarter cup of each ingredient. Shake up your spray bottle and mix the ingredients.

You’ll then want to make sure that you have a friend or relative close by as you look for the copperhead snakes in your yard.

Do be careful not to step on one as they can and will bite you, sending you on a trip to the doctor.

#4. Get Rid of Food Sources

One of the best ways to make sure that copperhead snakes get out and stay out is to get rid of the food sources that these snakes love to eat. Food sources include rats, mice, and other small pests.

Copperhead snakes can even eat frogs, which may be the hardest to remove from your yard or garden during the springtime when showers are common. Though sometimes unsightly, installing a mesh or small gate around any water, moat or pond areas in your yard can help to keep frogs from coming into your backyard or garden.

These frogs will lure the copperhead snakes, so one way to keep them out is a fence about eighteen to twenty-five inches high. Install these fences around your property if possible as well. They’re effective for keeping copperhead and other snakes off your property.

#5. Maintain Your Yard

Always be sure to maintain your yard. Mow your lawn often, explore and manicure your garden often. This will help you to identify if and when a copperhead snakes hole or borough has formed in the dirt.

Copperhead snakes can share holes or boroughs with other snakes, so be careful when you do see a hole in your yard or garden. If you do see a hole in your yard, fill it as tightly and solidly as you can until its level with the rest of the ground near it.

If there are still reptiles or animals living inside the holes or boroughs that you find while you’re maintaining your property, take a few mothballs and toss them into the hole. Mothballs are poisonous for snakes and will repel them far from the hole. Come back to the hole in about thirty minutes and fill the hole with dirt.

#6. Remove The Hiding Places

Take a look at your garden or yard and imagine all the places that copperhead and other unwanted snakes will be nesting. Any tall grass, tall vegetation, logs, lumber, piles of wood or rocks will house the critters that snakes will eat.

Snakes will be around these areas in order to find the mice, rats and worms that snakes love. By removing these items, you’ll be able to be certain that snakes will not find your garden, yard and property to be a welcoming home. Hiding spots such as piles of rocks or logs is also another way that snakes will not be welcome.

#7. Do Mothballs Really Work?

Mothballs are often recommended in removing snakes and especially venomous copperhead snakes. Mothballs dry out the moist, porous skin of snakes. Using mothballs not only repels them, it also makes them not return to the location of the mothballs. Naphthalene is the main component of mothballs. This substance is toxic for snakes and emits a fowl smell that reptiles find unfavorable.

A common trick is to mix your mothballs with kitty litter and spreading it across the bed of your garden. You’ll find that this rids your garden of not only snakes, but also worms and other unwanted critters that copperhead snakes love to eat. Any tall vegetation in your garden or piles of wood or lumber should be placed far away from your home or buildings on your property that your family members and children will go near.

#8. How To Snake-Proof Your Home

First, seal up any areas that snakes may be able to slither through. This means basement windows, screen doors, or areas close to the ground that are open such as vents.

Be sure that these areas are closed so that snakes are not able to enter your home.

Secondly, sometimes you may need to remove a snake from your home yourself. Make sure that you’re not alone. If you’re bitten or hurt, make sure that you have someone with you who is able to alert a medical professional immediately or drive you to the hospital.

Set up traps in your home or call a professional. A professional has all of the tools and skills needed to effectively catch a snake and make sure that all of the sources that allowed the snake to favor your home are eliminated as well.

Lastly, make sure that any food that you leave out is stored away safely. This means dog or cat food. Be sure that animal food is stored in a closed area that is not accessible to outside critters or reptiles. Removing food sources of reptiles and copperhead snakes forces them to leave that area.

Sometimes, actually removing the food sources for these pests will solve your snake problem entirely. Copperhead snakes are always on the hunt for its next meal. This being the case, securing animal food and getting rid of the mice, rats or frogs in your yard and garden is the surest way of getting rid of copperhead snakes.

Conclusion

Copperhead snakes are venomous and highly dangerous. They are easily mistaken for other nonvenomous snakes, so take precaution even if you are not sure if it’s a copperhead or not. Make sure that you have a friend or family member close by while you are trapping a copperhead snake or getting rid of the hiding places in which critters and snakes hunt or hide.

What Types of Snake Repellent Are There?

There are a few different kinds of snake repellents on the market that can be used to keep snakes away from your home and backyard, campsites, or other outdoor environment where you plan on spending a good deal of time.

The first kind of snake repellent are granules, which can be sprinkled or spread around lawns or other areas outside. Most of these formulas are designed to be safe for pets, people, and homes, and come in a formula that is designed not to wash away if it gets wet, such as in the rain.

Another type of snake repellent that is popular on the market is a spray. The snake repellent spray is used around homes and outside to deter snakes from nesting or coming in contact with the area. These sprays aren't often as safe for pets and people as the granules, and tend to have more of an odor, but work well after application.

The third type of snake repellent that is popular on the market today is the solar garden stake variety - they are placed into the ground in your lawn or backyard, and will send sonic vibrations through the earth at levels that are annoying to snakes and other small pests, such as mice. These rely on solar power, so they are to be placed in an area where there is plenty of sun. Since there are no chemicals, they are a safe choice for families with children and pets.

Where Should I Put Snake Repellents?

Via Wildliferemovalusa.com

There are a great many places that you can put snake repellent in order for it to be successful in keeping snakes at bay. For starters, you can place snake repellent all around your property, as a border, or you can put it in certain spots to deter snakes from investigating. For example, if you have a large pile of brush or trees on your property, or even a pile of firewood, you might choose to place the liquid or granule form of snake repellent there, since those places are often the places that snakes will go to in order to keep themselves cool, especially in the summer.

If you live by a forest or in an area that has a lake or a bog nearby, it might be best to form a border around your home and backyard in order to keep snakes from coming near your outdoor environment. In this case, it is likely for the snakes to come from a variety of locations and even make homes for themselves, so it is important to be on top of things.

If you have a larger property, using more snake repellent or adding more to the property isn't always a bad idea - keep a fresh batch down for the best protection. If you are using the solar stake varieties of snake repellent, you might need several, depending on how much area you want to cover. You can even combine solar stake snake repellents with spray or granules if you have a serious snake problem in your home, giving you the best protection.

What Steps Should I Take To Get Rid of Snakes?

If you are trying to get rid of snakes from your home, the first step you might take, before even putting snake repellent down on your property, is to get rid of any small animals that would make good prey for the snake. These types of animals include mice and frogs, as they can be what draw snakes to the area in the first place.

After you get rid of any other pest issues, you can begin taking more measures by putting down snake repellent to get rid of snakes. In order to keep snakes at bay, building a fine mesh fence around your property can deter snakes from coming into your backyard or home, since they cannot climb. Couple the fence with some snake repellent and you are giving your home a great barrier against these pests, making it completely unappealing to them.

What to Consider Before Buying Snake Repellent

Before buying snake repellent, it is important to take into consideration whether or not you have children or pets, for starters. If you do, you might choose to look for a variety of snake repellent that will be safe to use in an environment that they spend time in - such as the backyard.

Another thing to consider is how you plan on using your snake repellent - are you going to be covering large areas of the backyard or patio, or is it only for a small area? It is vital to make sure that you have enough snake repellent before you begin applying it, otherwise it might not have the desired effect.

If you have snake in your home, you might want to call animal control to remove the snake instead of putting down snake repellent - it can actually work to keep the snake in your home, as well - so be sure you are clear of snakes before using!
Where Can I Buy Snake Repellent?

You can purchase snake repellent at a lot of major retailers, and if you can't find it there, you can always try your lawn and garden supply store or even a hardware store. Most of these types of stores focus on home improvement and outdoor care, so you are sure to find what you are looking for there. If you can't find it locally, you can always order snake repellent online.

The Best Snake Repellents of 2020

How To Build A Deer stand Even As A New Hunter

No matter what you’re hunting, being able to stay completely hidden will give you a shot at the biggest game. Hunting deer successfully is helped greatly just by your ability to stay completely concealed.

How do catch the prize deer? One way is to build a deer stand, a standalone structure built onto the property. Even as a new hunter, knowing how to build a deer stand is your chance to knock down that prize game.

How do catch the prize deer?

Build a Deer stand Even As A New Hunter

You’ll Need The Below Materials:

Choose a great place to build the deer stand (Careful on location- It’s permanent!)
Two 4x4’s (This is you foundation)

Hammer and nails (Cordless drill, if you’d like to use this instead of a hammer)
8 more 4x4’s for the rest of the stand

Step 1: The Frame

Measurements are completely different for everyone. Cut 3 of the frame 4x4’s to your specific height when you’re crouching down with your rifle.

You’ll want to make sure that you can comfortably stand on one knee while your rifle still easily points out the window of the deer stand.

Do note that your platform is going to be beneath you so don’t measure the 4x4’s too short.

Step 2: Choose The Best Place!

Via Pinterest.com

If you’re a seasoned hunter you already know the best places to shoot your prize game. As a new hunter, however, you may have a lot of questions about where to build. Do a lot of research before begin your deer stand.

Go to different areas and observe how many deer you see and what time of day they appear. You’re not able to remove your stand after you build it.

Doing so can take a long time, it can damage the wood materials and it can even be dangerous.

Choose your location carefully and get other hunters to agree with the location. You may also want to make that you’re allowed to build there. There may be legal limits in that area for building.

Step 3: Building Your Ladder

You’ll want to first build a sturdy ladder that you’ll use to climb up to your deer stand. Making this out of wood is a great idea because it tends to be quieter than a metal one when you’re climbing up or down.

You can build the ladder at home and bring it with you to the area the deer stand is actually going to be built.

Step 4: Building Your Platform

On the ground, you’ll want to put together your foundation. All this requires at first is six 4x4’s. Make a square with four 4x4’s and then make an ‘X’ in the center. Use nails to secure the 4x4’s down.

If you’re using a drill, make sure you bring one that doesn’t need to be plugged into a wall! Cordless is best out in nature. Build 4 of these platforms and make sure they’re the same size.

Step 5: Build Your floor!

Via Thehuntingbeast.com

After you place all four of the platforms that you built into a large upright square, nail them together and ad your ladder to one side. Now you’ll want to climb up and climb down rather roughly, just to make sure that your deer stand isn’t going to fall.

Next you’ll want to build your floor. Lay four 4x4’s on their edge and nail them in a large square. Then lay the rest of your 4x4’s flat on top of the square you just built. Now you’re almost done!

Step 6: Place Your Floor On Top Of Your Stand

Via Ronkulas.proboards.com

Place your floor on top of your stand. Make sure that you nail it to the stand at least every six inches so that it doesn’t fall while you’re standing on it. At this point, you may also want to nail down your wall 4x4’s onto the floor.

This is so that you’re able to lay your rifle down on something else if you can’t get a proper shot from the floor. Only build your wall on one side so that you can still have the option of leaning down on the floor.

Now you’re finished building your deer stand. Even if you aren’t a seasoned hunter or even if you’re a new hunter, this deer stand and the steps to build it will work for you, just as it would a very experienced deer hunter.

The reason for this is simple. What if something goes wrong? I’ve heard all the stories, and most of them go a little like this: You come out to your prime deer stand location. You start to set up your foundation and then you set the floor on top.

And then it suddenly breaks and you’ve got five 4x4’s on the ground with loose nails in the grass and once you fix that, the ladder falls and it breaks and then guess what? You’re losing daylight and you’re now sitting with a pile of wood, a darkening sky and hours ahead still until you can even think of starting to hunt.

#3: What Do You Do If You Shoot A Deer And Then You Can’t Find It?

What do you do if you shoot a deer and then you can’t find it? You look and look and finally you do locate it, but the hind-quarters of the deer have been eaten by wolves or coyotes. What do you do about registering and tagging the game?

The answer is this: you still have to register your deer. If you kill a deer and you intend to eat that deer, in most states the only possible and legal way there is to have a deer hunting license.

If you don’t have a hunting license that is approved for deer, you cannot even legally shoot that deer, let alone eat it. Again, check your local law enforcement and fish and game departments to understand the details with attaining the license and what it allows you to. ·

#4: Who Is Liable?

If you have permission to build the deer stand on either someone elses property or land owned by the state and then you fall from your deer stand or somehow injure yourself in the process of hunting, Who Is Liable?

In most states, the landowner, including the state, is not liable for any injury occurring in the process of hunting up to and including the use of your deer stand in the event of injury unless the entity who owns the land is receiving more than a certain amount each year in revenues garnered from allowing hunters to hunt on that land.

Check with your local fish and game departments to understand what numbers to call to make sure you know all the details!

The Lock It Up Box was the product of a disabled veteran and father of four girls with a strong passion for protecting 2nd Amendment rights, as well as gun safety. Realizing that the majority of firearms are stored inappropriately around homes, presenting life-threatening dangers to kids and teens in and out of the house, Kev Kutina wanted to create an affordable, full-size solution that was compatible with any living space. After receiving a gift of a book with the pages cut out to carry a gun, Kutina was inspired to create something similar, yet more effective. He wanted to create a book that locked the gun for ultimate and infallible safety.

As a gun enthusiast and engineer, Kutina felt compelled to develop a better concept of the “gun in a book” that would keep kids safe, protect families from thieves, and blend into surroundings naturally as to attract zero attention.

Ground Blind Mistakes To Avoid

As a crossbow hunter, you can enjoy numerous benefits hunting out of ground blind or a tree stand. First, you can get as close as possible to your game, at least a shooting distance of 40 feet or less. With these structures, you can remain out of sight and view the game uninterrupted. You can always opt for easy to operate, lightweight and fast crossbows such as the Wicked Ridge Invader G3, which is customized for ambush hunting accordingly.

You should expect a few challenges when shooting from a ground blind. However, you can try hunting feral hogs using a crossbow from a ground blind to get some practice allowing you to prepare yourself for when the deer hunting season comes around. Here are some useful tips to help you avoid some common ground blind mistakes.
Ground Blind Mistakes To Avoid
a) Getting Started
b) Check The Limb Clearance
c) Sit Down Whenever Shooting
d) Range Ahead
e) 3D Practice

a) Getting Started

Start by setting up the tree stand or ground ambush hunting blinds securely. Next, you should create proper shooting lanes to the feeding areas or active game trails to watch. You can avoid a lot of deflections by taking enough time to create direct lines of sight to your game.

b) Check The Limb Clearance

When you are setting up, make sure there is proper limb clearance for the crossbow you will be using. It would be daunting once you pull the trigger and the crossbow limbs come into contact with something on the ground. Your arrow will be thrown off course and everything you had prepared for will be wasted.

It’s quite common for numerous crossbow hunters to spoil their hunt because of failing to practice the hunt before doing the real thing. Therefore, if you are planning to shoot from a blind, you need to practice doing so. Even better, you should try out different angles beforehand to confirm the clearance required when squeezing the trigger. You should also do the same practice for tree stands. You can opt for shooting rails but they also have their own challenges with limb clearance.

If you are new to all this and haven’t shot your crossbow or don’t understand what clearance refers to, you can try using the arrow for measurement purposes. The arrows are about the same width as the crossbow before cocking. If there is some variance in the width you can take the right width then mark the arrow to use it as a measuring tool.

For instance, the Invader G3 has a width of 22 inches before it is cocked. You can shoot a 20 inch arrow from it and when it is set up using a broadhead, it has the perfect and comparable length to represent the width of the crossbow. You can hold the arrow up then change your angles to see how you can shoot it without making contact with anything around you.

c) Sit Down Whenever Shooting

There are a few things to take into consideration whenever you are practicing to shoot from tree stands and ground blinds. For instance, you need to try practicing shooting when sitting down on a structure. Once you get in the blind, you should find a good sitting position for the best possible shot. Take into account all the possibilities and angles to avoid being caught off guard.

You should practice shooting from the same chair you would use when in a blind. Make sure you can actually sit very high to allow you to see out of the window. Note that, a lot of camp chairs in the market often sag forcing you to sit too low when lining up a shot and eventually squirming to the edge or crouching when you are in the blind.

Keep in mind that all the extra movement will cause a fracas alerting the game and eventually you will be forced to shoot from a very unfavorable position. The same happens whenever you are shooting from tree stands. Therefore, you need to practice to counter any unforeseen challenges. For instance, you can set up the tree stand at the same height you will be hunting from then try shooting from different angles you might not be familiar with.

d) Range Ahead

You can reduce your movement and save a lot of time during a hunt by identifying your shooting range before the game shows up. You can do so by using a rangefinder to find out the distance to various objects in the shooting lanes and using them as reference points. You need to know the farthest shot you can take and anything within that range will be game.

You should consider reference points about 10-yard intervals to make sure when the game shows up you are 100% accurate. Even better, you will not be forced to move to confirm the distance. Rather, you can level the cross hair on the bow. Examples of reference points you should consider using include flowers, rocks, trees, grass or any other natural features.

If there are none available, you can use a marker, broken branch, stick or flagging tape. If you are placing markers, you should do so before the hunt begins. That way, you can avoid spreading your scent in the area with the game since animals can pick it up and run away.

e) 3D Practice

You can try 3D practicing by using targets to help you identify the best shooting angles as well as where the arrow would hit or exit the animal. You need to understand these angles, especially if you are shooting from a high ground. That way, you can identify if the arrow has hit the vital organs when it hits the game.

Try picturing the exit points on the target where you will focus the crosshair. You can also try shooting at different angles from the broadside to the quartering away allows you to learn the various shooting opportunities when it comes to hunting a real animal.

Glock 19 Gen 3 vs Gen 4 – A Basic Comparison

The Glock 19, despite popular belief, is not one of the new pistol generations in the market. The Gen 3, for example, was introduced back in 1996 while the Gen 4 has been available for nearly six years now. However, for first-time buyers, it’s very hard to know which of these two options suits them best. There are quite a number of distinct differences between the Glock Gen 3 and the Gen 4. In this Glock 19 Gen 3 vs Gen 4 analysis, we are going to look at all the distinct differences and see just how the two pistols compare.

The Glock pistols are arguably the most popular polymer pistols in the market. Although not everybody likes them, they are great handguns. Many progressive changes have been made on the Glock 19 pistols over the years and we will review each of these changes so that we can give you all the information that you need to make your decision.

The first polymer-frame pistol was first introduced in the 80s. Ever since, various models have come out with the latest version being the Glock 19. The Glock 19 is basically a compact polymer framed pistol. The double stacked 9mm handgun also features locked-breach reloading. The handgun can easily be customized to fit the shooter’s specifications too.

Glock 19 Gen 3 Vs. Gen 4 Differences

The Glock 19 Gen 3 and Gen 4 have quite a number of differences. However, only experienced gun owners who have used the two pistols for some time will notice these distinguishing factors. For a regular guy looking for the perfect pistol, these differences may not be easily noticeable. Nonetheless, we still think it’s important to understand the Glock 19 Gen 3 vs Gen 4 contrast.

Well, below is a break down for you:

Slide

The first difference between the Glock Gen 3 and the Gen 4 can be found on the slide. If you look carefully, you will notice that the slide on the Gen 4 is often stamped with “Gen 4”. There’s also another distinct feature on the Gen 4 that can help you identify the handgun. When you examine the guide rod just below the muzzle, you will realize that the Gen 4 has a large hole compared to the Gen 3.

This is actually because it uses a dual-recoil spring guide rod. You will also notice that the metal surfaces on the Gen 4 are different in color compared to the Gen 3. The surfaces are lighter, almost bordering on dull grey.
Recoil Spring Assembly

Another point to note in this Glock 19 Gen 3 vs Gen 4 review is related to the recoil spring assembly. The Glock 19 Gen 3 has a single-spring guide rod assembly. The Gen 4 has dual-spring. The biggest advantage you get with a dual-spring assembly is the significant reduction of the felt recoil. Dual-spring assemblies also last longer.

However, for someone who has used the Glock 19 for a while, the difference in recoil may not really be felt in a significant way.

Frame Grip

We have also noticed that the texture of the frame grip varies. The Gen 4 has a rougher and more aggressive texture on the frame grip compared to the Gen 3. This is an added advantage especially in cases where your hands might be a little wet or sweaty.

If you are one of those people who engage in long shooting sessions somewhere in the woods, a better grip is definitely an important consideration. However, you can always bring your gloves with you.

Trigger Bar

The trigger bar on the Gen 4 is also very different compared to the Gen 3. This is an important part of the pistol and we couldn’t overlook it in this Glock 19 Gen 3 vs Gen 4 comparison. The Gen 4 has a rounded bump just around the part that disables the firing pin safety. The rounded bump is designed to ensure that the trigger bar is perfectly centered on the firing pin safety.

However, it makes the trigger pull rough. It also increases the weight of the pull. This might be problematic for some people but for regular Glock 19 users, it’s really not a big deal.
Trigger Housing and Connector

The trigger housing on the Gen 4 has been redesigned to adapt to the new and smaller frame. The engagement angle of the connector is also very different to the Gen 3. However, it’s still possible to use the Gen 4 connector on the Gen 3 but this will significantly change the weight pull.

Back Straps

The Gen 4 features two additional alternate back straps. This makes it easier to fit the pistols comfortably in various hand sizes. The smallest of the back straps is fully integrated into the pistol’s frame. This reduces the trigger distance by approximately 0.08 inches. The large back strap increases the trigger distance by about 0.16 inches.
Magazines and Magazine Release

The magazine release on the Gen 4 is slightly larger and easier to operate compared to the Gen 3. It’s also ambidextrous, making it easier for left and right-handed shooters to operate. The magazines for both pistols are compatible with each other.

However, the magazine release on the Gen 3 will be problematic if used on the Gen 4. This is because the release on the Gen 3 was generally designed for right-handed shooters while the release on the Gen 4 is designed for both.
Cost

Finally, it’s also important to look at the cost differences in for the Glock 19 Gen 3 vs Gen 4 comparison. The Gen 4, being a newer model, will cost more. The Gen 3 will range between $100 and $200 while the Gen 4 costs somewhere between $400 and $500.

Glock 19 Gen 3 vs. Gen 4 – Comparison on Reliability

Via gunsamerica.com

The Glock pistols, regardless of the model you are using, are generally very reliable. Although there were a few issues with the Gen 4 immediately after its first release, those problems have since been resolved. The Glock pistols are highly durable, easy to use and function very well in almost every condition. Whether you are using the Gen 3 or Gen 4, it will be worth it!

Conclusion

Although there are a few differences between the Glock 19 Gen 3 and Gen 4, to be honest, any choice would be great. The pistol is just the right size and the perfect weight for concealment. The 9mm bullet packs enough power to do damage in case of self-defense.

It also has the right bullet capacity, quality grip, and it always feels comfortable carrying. The choice between the Gen 3 and Gen 4 boils down to taste and preference. However, in terms of functionality and applicability, the two generations will serve you right.

How to Clean a Wild Turkey and Still Have Time to Eat It

As a hunter, one of the best moments of your hunt is knocking down the bird and collecting your reward:

A big, fine, succulent turkey that you can prepare and eat. If you’re a hunter, you may be most excited about the camouflage, the turkey pump-action shotgun, and your feathered turkey decoy.

However, the least exciting part for me is having to spend hours boiling my turkey, plucking its feathers and the tail fan, cutting off the beard and removing the entrails.

Years ago, I thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be wonderful to find a way to prepare my prize game for frying, baking or roasting in the shortest amount of time so that I can spend the rest of my day reaping the great taste of my reward’? Then I figured it out: Here’s how to clean a wild turkey and still have time to eat it.

For this tutorial, you’ll need only a few items:

  • A very sharp knife. Make sure that your knife is sharp enough to cut easily through the vein, piercing the jugular vein in one even slice. ·
  • A pot of boiling water. The hotter the water, the easier it will be to pluck all of the feathers off quickly. ·
  • An outside area over grass or dirt (My favorite because then you have much less – if any- cleaning up to do!) ·
  • A garbage bag for the stuff nobody wants to keep, like entrails, the head and the claws.

1. Locate the jugular vein

Now while I discovered that this is the easiest and fastest way of cleaning a wild turkey, I also found that this is the kosher way of killing it. What makes it interesting is that the kosher way is also the most humane way of preparing your game for the dinner table.

First, locate the jugular vein on both sides of the windpipe in the beard of your turkey. The easiest way to do this is by hanging the turkey upside down. The turkeys’ beard flops downward at an 180˚ angle and I find it easier to locate the windpipe. Now grab ahold of the turkey’s head.

You should do this step as quickly as possible because if your turkey is still moving, the blood flow after cutting through the jugular vein is going to be heavy and may spray a little bit on your face and clothes (Yeah, not pretty).

2.  Dunk the bird in boiling water

Next, I like to get my water to about 180˚ F. I don’t boil the water to the point where it’s bubbling because it sears the turkey’s skin. Dunk the turkey into the water for about 15 seconds.

I sometimes leave the turkey in the water for 18 seconds. Make sure to hold the turkey tightly by the claws so that you get the whole body in the water. Now the feathers can be removed much faster.

3. Pluck the Feathers

Now that you’ve boiled the turkey, the feathers just slip right out. Begin with the feathers right below the neck and move downward. You don’t need to focus too much on the tail fan because that will be removed in the next step.

I like to dunk the bird in the water again every few seconds so that the skin stays hot. I never dunk it for more than 10 seconds during this step because the skin may be scalded.

4. Remove the stomach and windpipe

(and the head comes with it)

Using my sharp knife, I cut off the head starting from just under the beak right at that jugular vein. First cut the skin around the rest of the neck and then fold the skin back over the turkey’s head. Now cut through the chest wall.

I’m always very careful during this step because if I don’t want to cut through the stomach. It’s much easier to remove the entire stomach than clean up the mess in case it ruptures. You’ll find a thick wall of fat.

Cut through this and you’ll find the stomach behind it. Pull it out and continue to follow the windpipe. I pull that out as deeply as I can so that the head falls off without having to slice through any bone material.

5. Remove the anus

You may or may not want to remove the oil sac first. To remove the oil sac, simply locate it near the anus of the bird and cut it off. For the anus, be careful not to rupture the colon. Cut on either side and around the anus and pull it out slowly. You’ll see the bluish colored rope of the colon. Be sure not to sever this, as it can take a lot longer to clean up.

6. Remove The Innards

Now you’re almost at the last step before your turkey goes into the oven! Reach your hand inside the turkey from the anal cavity that you just removed and pull out all the intestines and guts. You’ll want to slowly detach the innards, lungs and heart from the chest wall.

Some people do like to cook the heart, liver and gizzard and if you’re one of those, you can definitely set that aside for yourself. I like to throw all the innards away after detaching them from the chest wall and pulling them out.

7. Cool The Bird In Water

Now you’re ready to clean the bird. This is simple. Just rinse it in cool water, making sure to scrub with your hands all over the outside. Reach inside and gently rinse there as well. Now keep the bird in cool water for about ten minutes until you’re ready to cook or freeze the bird for preparing later on.

Did you enjoy this tutorial? The steps above will help you clean your wild game faster so that you have more time to enjoy it, because you wants to spend hours on preparation? Any hunter’s favorite part is shooting it and then enjoying the taste of your wild turkey as it comes roasted and tender out of the oven.

These steps will help you get to the fun part faster. Share this article and comment below to share your experiences and any tips you’ve discovered that help us, hunters, clean a wild turkey and still have time to eat it.

What Is Sight Alignment?

Once you have finally made the decision that you want to become a seasoned hunter, you have to start acquiring the skills. Why skills? Well, let me tell you this fellow hunter, skills are more important than the gun or arrows you already have.

That is the reason I am always stressing on learning the hunting skills before you set off for the bust to kill those hogs or ducks. After all, you need to be a very skillful hunter to make a kill.

What do I mean? Your aim is to hit the target and not to fire warning shots in the bushes. The point here is hitting that deer or hog and not just wounding it but killing it!

That is where sight alignment comes in. Before you can bring down that turkey or duck; you need to understand the most basic things about sight alignment. It is only by understanding and following the rules of traditional marksmanship that you can become a seasoned hunter. Like I said before, you want to hit that duck and ground it in the blink of an eye, don’t you?

Learning sight alignment will spare you the hassle of having to chase wounded rabbits or deer in bushes. And as a seasoned hunter, I want you to get the best training by first of all chasing a few myths away.

Why is Sight Alignment Crucial?

You must have heard of hunters who have never taken any killing home. Well, many of these have fallen victim of instinctive shooting. You will hear them with statements like, “it was the only shot I had” “I couldn’t have done anything else.”

Whichever the statement, the bottom line is that such hunters never make kills. They have simply become victims of instinctive shooting. As a qualified instructor, I will not waste our precious time on such a fallacy.

I will also never admit to a judge that I have ever coached a hunter not to use sights when hunting. Shooting without sight alignment is like driving a vehicle with your eyes closed. Fellow hunter, it is only by using sight alignment that you can precisely hit your targets.

What Do You Need To Know About Sight Alignment?

The Whole Picture

Hunting isn’t just about statistic shooting on the range. There are several details a hunter needs to understand when hunting. You drawing the gun will lead to a stance; the stance will then lead to a proper sight of the picture. From the moment you draw your gun and point it to the target, you are making the decision of a successful or failed hit.

Many hunters are not aware that the stance is the foundation of successful sight alignment. For you to, hit the target successfully:

  • Your position needs to be stable
  • Stand with the feet shoulder width apart
  • Your feet should be at 45 degrees towards the target. Ensure that you are not flat footed
  • Distribute your weight evenly across the body
  • Lean into the gun
  • Place your arms out thrust on an isosceles stance maintaining one arm straight but slightly bent to support the arm.

After this, put your body in a squared position. Though you can do the both of these, the weaver stance is professionally recommended.

Finally, What Is Sight Alignment?

This isn’t rocket science, but it involves some geometry. Mmmh! You don’t have to get scared of that. The front sight will either be a blade or a post attached to the barrel of the gun. The rear one is an open sight containing two posts or raised bars on both sides.

The radius of the sight is the distance between the rear and the front sight. The point here is, a longer sight radius makes it easier for a hunter like you or me to have a perfect sight picture. On the other hand, a shorter sight radius alignment could exaggerate mistakes when it comes to alignment.

All you have to do is to align the rear notch and the front post between the rear posts with equal amounts of light on both sides of the post. Ensure that the top of each rear leaf and the front sight are equal.

This is a constant which defines whether or not you have your target within the sight. This balance can’t be compromised if at all you need that duck or turkey.

So, How Can You Achieve Perfect Sight Alignment?

Well, let me define once more what is sight alignment before we can continue. It is a process of lining the front and rear sights. I have also talked about sight picture, and perhaps many of you don’t know what it is. Basically, it’s the image seen after the sight is correctly aligned.
Open Sight

If you are using an aperture sight the target is lined up in such a way that its front sight will be within the rear peephole

Telescopic Sight With A Crosshair Reticle

If you have a telescopic sight with which uses a cross hair, all you need is to line up the reticle of with the target, and you will bring it down.

Aperture Sight Line Up

If you are using an aperture sight the target should be lined up in such a way that the sight at the front will be within the back hole

If the sight comes with a dot reticle, let the dot be lined up with the position you need to shoot the target. The dot has to be in the position where the bullet falls.

Conclusion

With this kind of knowledge, you can now confidently go out hunting and be assured of hitting as many targets as possible. As long as you know what sight alignment is, you can be assured that you will never return home hungry. That goose or duck will have no chances as long as it is you on the trigger.

How to Make a Homemade Deer Feeder

For many people enjoying their cabin in the forest, ranch in the Hills, or even their suburban home, attracting deer is never a problem especially if you have a garden. Deer are known for their voracious appetite for greenery, shrubs, different types of flowers, and vegetables of all kinds. They will happily eat bird seed if it’s available.

However, for the hunting enthusiasts and seasoned hunters, deer can often be scarce or surprisingly difficult to find. Setting up the right environment for both sportsman and hunters can become a large project quickly.

When it comes to homemade deer feeders, there is no shortage of options. Human beings have a natural tendency to build and make tools for just about anything. This also applies to homemade deer feeders. Numerous examples of different types of homemade deer feeders including those listed below;

  • Tripod feeders
  • Salt and Mineral Licks
  • Gravity Fed Feeders
  • Hanging Feeders
  • Station Feeders
  • Trough Style Feeders

Food options for feeders also includes a range of options including but not limited to:

  • Salt and mineral licks
  • Molasses-based deer licks
  • Peanut Butter based feed
  • Seed mixes

Sorting through the different options for homemade deer feeders can be tough when the right combination of both feeders and food is needed to create the right bait for deer.

Many possibilities of different types of deer feeders available. We're going to look at three different types of homemade deer feeders and recipes that make them a little bit more unique.

1. Tube Feeder with Grain.

With many station or tube feeder ideas out there this idea is remarkably simple. Most often it's a 4 or 6 inch PVC pipe with a V joint and pipe covers one either end acting as the trough off at the end of the pipe. Simply put pipe covers on either end and you have your deer feeder.

These can be as tall or short (depending on the pipe length) as you like. Just remember the longer they are the more feed they will hold, and the less often they will need to be refilled. The larger pipes can feed more than one deer easily while the smaller ones are used to add a feeder to a more confined space.

Simply fill the pipe with your favorite feed mix and happy hunting. These feeders don't freeze since they are not using wet or moist bait and they can be placed in very specific targets in a line of site to augment aim when hunting.

2. Molasses & Grains

There are so many different types of deer food and licks available for you to purchase. Retail options are often very expensive but, surprisingly easy to make, when you have a recipe.

Deer are attracted to many different types of food. Molasses especially attracts deer and has very high nutritive value. Molasses provides a higher mineral content as well as iron and sugar for energy. Molasses will also hold together a feed mix nicely in most Homemade Deer Feeders. Deer also need higher carbohydrates in the winter for energy.

This recipe uses molasses at the base of the recipe and you don't have to go through the process of cooking or baking. This recipe can also be manually shaped with the oats and corn and it will keep its shape. This is ideal to pair with a station feeder.

You can double this recipe easily to make larger quantities. This recipe uses a base amount.

a. Oats — You can use cracked or whole oats. — 3 cups

b. Corn — You can also use cracked or whole corn. — 3 Cups

c. Molasses — A cup

Mix equal parts of the grains together and drizzle the molasses over the grains. Use gloves if needed and knead together like bread dough.

Some Molasses may be darker and thicker than others, you may be able to use a little more if needed. Mix in the molasses a portion at a time to make sure the mixture is not too wet either. You want the mix to be firm enough to mix well and be clumpy.

This recipe will create a feed mix which is moist enough to be molded into a shape or you can leave the feed in a mixed clump. In winter months it will freeze in most trough style feeders but will also break off in pieces easily with the oats mixed throughout the mix.

3. Station Feeder

Station feeders are one of the most common types of homemade deer feeder. Variations on this type of homemade deer feeder seem to be endless. We looked at best deer feeders which can be made with basic materials relatively easily (think a single trip to Lowe's or Home Depot), don't include too many complex power tools and you could make with your kids safely, sort of. The examples we found include:

  • Small feeders structured like a bird feeder to be fixed on the side of a tree or a fence post. These are easy to build, take a seed mix to fill (or a homemade deer feed mix). As a DIY project they are great.
  • PVC feeders made with 2 or 4-inch PVC pipe which uses a V joint at the base as the feed trough. These are easy to make with very few materials in comparison to other Homemade Deer feeders, durable, and can be attached on narrow places, or in a group of feeders on a number of trees in a specific clearing to attract larger groups of deer.
  • A cattle feed styled trough with canopy roof to protect against the elements (this style of homemade deer feeder may attract other types of critters more than the homemade deer feeders attached higher off the ground on trees and fence posts, so keep that in mind). These are ideal for more open spaces and can feed numerous deer at a time. We recommend making the roof top large enough to cover the feed trough due to the elements

These types of homemade deer feeders listed above are the most common for easy-to-do projects. They seem to be the easiest to make with a modest amount of resources.

For people looking to thoroughly enjoy the process of hunting right down to building your own homemade deer feeder, these options will give you a solid start.
